Over time, we found ourselves drawn to botanical eco printing, natural dyeing, indigo, and Kakishibu — processes that allow plants, natural color, and time to leave their own marks on fabric. What begins as simple cloth becomes something unique through leaves, flowers, dye, and the handmade process.
Today, Sylra Studio creates botanical textiles and everyday objects, from scarves and fabrics to bags, stationery, and home decor. Each piece is made slowly in small batches, celebrating natural color, botanical impressions, and the beauty of handmade variation.
Natural Dye Traditions
Many of our scarves and textiles are dyed using plant-based colors. Indigo, one of our most recognizable tones, comes from traditional indigo plants used for generations. Other colors may come from natural sources such as sappanwood for warm reds, gardenia for soft yellows, safflower for gentle pinks, and even experimental materials like black beans for subtle gray tones or persimmon dye for earthy browns.
Some pieces also feature botanical printing, where real leaves, flowers, and plant materials are carefully arranged on fabric to create natural imprints. Each print reflects the unique shapes and textures of the plants, making every piece truly one of a kind.
Because these processes are done slowly and by hand, each piece develops its own variations in color and pattern. No two pieces are ever exactly the same.
From Plants to Cloth
Much of our work begins with color drawn from nature. We use plant-based dyes and traditional dyeing techniques to create colors that feel soft, earthy, and alive. Indigo develops its distinctive layers of blue, while materials such as gardenia, sappanwood, and persimmon create shades ranging from warm yellows and reds to deep, earthy browns. We also work with botanical eco printing, arranging real leaves, flowers, and other plant materials directly onto fabric before heat and time reveal their natural shapes, colors, and markings. Because plants respond differently to fabric, water, temperature, and time, the results can never be completely controlled or exactly repeated. These subtle variations are part of what we value most — each piece carries its own record of the plants and the process.
Our Approach
We believe in making things slowly and thoughtfully. Rather than mass production, we work in small batches and embrace the natural variations that come with handmade processes. Differences in color, botanical impressions, and texture are not something we try to hide — they are part of what makes each piece individual. At Sylra Studio, we hope to create textiles and everyday objects that feel natural, personal, and quietly unique. Whenever possible, we also choose recyclable or biodegradable packaging as a simple way to reduce unnecessary waste.
